However, All-Star Brawl may have one saving grace to boost its fading numbers when it releases its crossplay update. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has struggled to maintain its player base since its sharp drop in activity a month after release.While the addition of new characters temporarily increased participation, many players felt that DLC characters couldn’t fix Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl’s problems at its core. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl did add voice acting this past June, but by then, its player base had already begun to dwindle. The scarcity of content inevitably led to a lack of motivation for players to return to the game after initial playthroughs. Though a capable fighting game overall, All-Star Brawl's lack of presentation and polish, including an initial absence of voice acting, made the game seem devoid of personality. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was the first of these contemporary challengers and wasted no time trying to fill Ultimate’s shoes, releasing in October 2021, the same month Smash received its final DLC character. Ultimate has given rise to the aspirations of other IP holders outside of video games to capture that success with their famous characters. The explosive success of Super Smash Bros. Despite its shaky start, there were some aspects that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl did better than Smash Bros., like its brawl-focused gameplay. stumbled out of the gate with an all-around, competent game, but one that severely lacked in presentation and content. While a promising alternative to Nintendo's character brawler, Nickelodeon’s take on Super Smash Bros. The lack of an active player base has rendered Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl nearly unplayable in online matches on Steam.
